One of the best parts about booking a charter with Captain Dane is that we provide most of the heavy lifting. All fishing tackle, reels, rods, and tackle bags are included. But there are still essentials you need to bring for comfort, safety, and an amazing experience. Here's exactly what to pack.

This is different from many charters that nickel-and-dime you for equipment. We believe in all-inclusive experiences.

Essentials You Must Bring

For Overnight or Multi-Day Charters

• Change of clothes
• Towel (bring your own; we have some)
• Sleeping bag or blanket (if sleeping on the boat)
• Toiletries
• Any medications or medical supplies

For Spearfishing Charters

If you're booking a spearfishing or freediving charter, bring:

• Your wetsuit (if you own one; we have rentals)
• Diving mask (if you prefer your own prescription lens)
• Fins (personal preference for fit)
• Gloves (coral protection and warmth)

What NOT to Bring

• Heavy luggage: Space is limited on the boat. Pack light.
• Glass bottles: Safety hazard. Use plastic or cans only.
• Metal tackle boxes: They rust and corrode in salt spray. Use plastic.
• Excessive alcohol: You can bring beer or wine, but we need you alert and safe.
• Loose electronics: They'll get wet. Use waterproof cases.
• Strong perfume/cologne: Fish smell it, and it bothers other guests.

Pro Packing Tips from Captain Dane

• Compression packing: Use a dry bag to keep everything organized and protected from salt spray
• Label your gear: Use waterproof stickers or tape with your name
• Waterproof everything: Phone, wallet, keys—all go in waterproof cases
• Arrive early: Give yourself 30 minutes before departure to settle in and ask questions
• Dress in layers: Early morning is cool; afternoon sun is hot
• Break in your gear: Don't wear brand-new shoes or sunglasses for the first time on the charter

The Charter Day Timeline

Meet at the dock 30 minutes early. We'll cover safety briefings, go over the day's plan, and get you comfortable on the boat. Most charters are 4–8 hours, so plan your breakfast accordingly. Bring snacks or eat before boarding.

Pack your personal items in a small dry bag or backpack. You'll have a safe place to store it while fishing.

Charter Dress Code

There's no formal dress code, but practicality wins:

• Comfortable, quick-dry clothes
• Non-slip shoes (water or boat shoes)
• Avoid loose jewelry or watches (can get caught in fishing line)
• Consider a light long-sleeve shirt for sun protection and fish spine safety

Money, Tips & Valuables

Bring minimal cash. Most charters process payment before or after via card. If you're tipping Captain Dane (and you should—great service deserves it), cash is appreciated. Plan 15–20% if it was an excellent experience.

Leave valuables (expensive watches, rings) at your hotel. The ocean is unpredictable, and items can be lost.
